Horitsuba Private Academy. Early Childhood Division, Elementary School Division, Junior High School Division, High School Division, University, Graduate School. On this enormous campus, these individuals make up one huge, complete city built entirely on private property.

Black Mokona:
Dormitories, laboratories , movie theatres, hospitals, banks, and so on; every possible institution is available in this campus-city, running in perfect order. Over ten thousand people attend school and live here, including students, staff members, authorized persons, other family members, and the like.

White Mokona:
Exactly. Since Horitsuba Academy is somewhat well-known all over, there are also lots of exchange students from foreign countries. Right now, we're going to tell you the story of a single exchange student in the high school division, Syaoran.

Syaoran:

...Earlier, I was wondering about February 14th, and I asked Fay-sensei and Kurogane-sensei and Kunogi-san, but...

Syaoran:

(Yuuko comes into Syaoran and Doumeki's classroom through the window to the corridor)

Doumeki:
Why did you come in through the window?

Yuuko:
Because it was closer!

Syaoran:
Is it a rule that teachers in this school have to come in and out through the windows?

Yuuko:
Not at all. But if there's an emergency situation and it can't be helped, we can go through them. Besides, I'm the classics teacher and the chairman of the board.

Doumeki:
This is an emergency situation?

Yuuko:
Certainly. It's the day before Valentine's Day and the exchange student is looking puzzled about it for some reason. It's a huge state of emergency.

Doumeki:
I see.

Yuuko:
So? What's wrong, Syaoran-kun?

Syaoran:

(More and more footsteps. It feels like the whole group is headed toward Syaoran en mass)

Doumeki:
Yo.

Watanuki:
Gah! What happened to you!? Did you trip and fall in some spectacular way!?

Syaoran:
(out of breath) On the way to class, a bunch of girls...

White Mokona:
A whole lot of them came!

Black Mokona:
They were carrying chocolate!

Watanuki:
(amused) Well, it is Valentine's Day.

Doumeki:
Have you gotten any?

Watanuki:
Shut up!

Syaoran:
(still out of breath) Somehow, they all came charging at me at once. There were girls from other schools, too. I tried to hold them off with all my strength, but... I really did get the feeling they were staking their lives.

Watanuki:
Huh? Why were you trying to hold them off?

Doumeki:
So he really did believe it...

Syaoran:
(breathing hard) If that chocolate is a weapon, there must be some sort of trick to it. Maybe if you eat it, something terrible happens...

Watanuki:
(not understanding what's going on) Syaoran...?

Syaoran:
(still out of breath) Japanese girls are... something else, huh?

(sound of the door opening)

Himawari:
Good morning!

Watanuki:
(rejoicing) Himawari-chaaan!

Doumeki:
Yo.

White Mokona:
Good morning!

Black Mokona:
Good morning!

Himawari:
Syaoran-kun, you're here already?

Syaoran:
(taking in a breath) Y-yes.

Himawari:
Sakura-chan!

(Sakura, called by Himawari, takes a step in)

Sakura:
(shyly) Uh, um... I wonder if it's okay...

Syaoran:
(doesn't understand) Yeah, we still have time before class starts.

Sakura:
We- well then. Could I talk to you for a minute?

Syaoran:
Sure.

Black Mokona:
Syaoran, you can leave your bag with us.

Syaoran:

White Mokona:

(The two walking)

White Mokona:
Sakura, we'll hand him over to you!

Black Mokona:

Himawari:

Fay:

Really! If we let him struggle to find the correct answer on his own, he'll understand it better.

Fay:

"Horitsuba Private Academy" - Part 2 - The Exciting Preparations for the Horitsuba Festival! Ageha Ohkawa (CLAMP)

Characters:
Sakura (Class C): Likes Syaoran, the transfer student. A little clueless sometimes. She can see ghosts, and doesn't really mind them. On the figure skating team.
Watanuki (Class B): Also sees ghosts, and is super high strung, but he's really a very nice person. Doesn't like Doumeki, but likes Himawari. In the "Go Home Right After School Club". [1]
Syaoran (Class C): Transfer student from far away. He's traveled here and there around the world with his father, an archaeologist. Serious and honest...maybe even a little too serious and honest. On the soccer team.
Doumeki (Class B): Always cool, composed, and eats a lot. Not very emotional, but he's the type who keeps his deeper feelings to himself. Has his moments where a lot is going through his mind at once, though. On the archery team.
Himawari (Class C): Gets along well with Sakura. Part of her class committee, and has a good head on her shoulders. She can be pretty spontaneous, though. On the figure skating team.
Shiro-Mokona (Class B): Mysterious life-form that's also a student. Seems to be female.
Kuro-Mokona (Class B): Mysterious life-form that's also a student. Seems to be male.
Kurogane (Gym Teacher): In charge of class B. A tough teacher, but he's got his nice side, too. Reliable. Doesn't like surprises.
Fay (Chemistry Teacher): In charge of class C. A nice teacher, but a little irresponsible. Slightly less reliable. Always kidding around.
Yuuko Ichihara (Classic Literature Teacher - Rijichou): Selfish. Her glasses are just for show. Wears them 'cause she thinks they make her look more like a teacher. Loves alcohol and anything fun. [2]

KURO-MOKONA: Horitsuba Private Academy. This huge school contains a nursery division, elementary division, middle school division, high school division, college division, and post-graduate division. It's a veritable city where talented students from all over come to learn.
SHIRO-MOKONA: Dormitories. Laboratories. Movie theaters. Hospitals. Banks. This city of a school houses it all, along with its many students, teachers, personnel, and sometimes family, totaling to a population of over 10,000.
KURO-MOKONA: You might've heard something, somewhere once before about Horitsuba Academy. Well this time, the story is about all the preparations for the Academy's summer festival.

SYAORAN: (*laughing*) Summer here in Japan sure is something else, though!
WATANUKI: Oh, that's right. Is this is your first summer here in Japan, Syaoran?
SYAORAN: Yeah.
DOUMEKI: You've been to even hotter countries though, haven't you?
SYAORAN: Yeah, but this is my first time in a country this humid. Which reminds me! For tomorrow......

[1] After school activities are a pretty big deal in Japan. Watanuki's not in any clubs or on any sports teams, which is pretty noticeable. Not having any club to go to after school is sometimes sort of jokingly called the "go home right after school club".
[2] "Rijichou" means "chairman" but doesn't translate well in a school setting. Plus it reminds me of Nokoru.
[3] If you've read Cardcaptor Sakura, you're familiar with a maid cafe already. It's more or less what it sounds like, girls dressed up as maids, acting as waitresses.
[4] In Japan, girls give gifts to boys on Valentine's Day, and boys give gifts back on White Day.
[5] "Otsukare-sama" means "thank you" or "good job", but sounded really ass-awkward in these two phrases. It's said when you've finished a job, and Syaoran uses it after having finished the school day.
[6] In Japan, all the teachers share a communal office. It's not really a staff lounge, which is why I didn't go for that in translation.

[9] Fay and Kurogane's speech trail off here, and it's not in the script, but they made me giggle. Kurogane tells Fay to quit it with the nicknames, Fay spouts off a bunch of them (Kuromu, Kuroppu, Kurorin, etc.) and says "Which one do you like best?". Kurogane says "NONE OF THEM, RAHHH, " and Fay says, "But they're tokens of my love! Accept them!". Kurogane tells him to shut up. It's pretty much from the manga character guide (thanks, su_chan!), but still. ♥
[10] Same deal here with Watanuki's speech. He basically says, "D-D-D-D-D-D-Do you think that I could m-m-m-m-m-m-maybe h-h-h-help you out?"
