| Every time I show my Grandpa one of my new anime Drawings, he always asks me "when are you gonna start drawin' horses?" So when the question of what to get him for Christmas came up, it was obvious what I was going to do. This was also a bit of a tribute to one of my favorite draft mares that died in an accident last month. I don't think I've ever been so close to a horse as with her, so it's been kind of tough. I didn't use any reference, I wanted to try to capture what I could remember of the many wonderful hours I spent brushing & harnessing her for work everyday. So this is my Christmas present to my Grandpa whome I hold responsible for my deep love of draft horses, & to My dear friend Ruby, Who I'll never forget. | Themen: Tiere (real) Stile: Bleistift Time Taken: 8 Hours |

whoa, this looks really amazing.
Everytime I try to draw a horse, it looks kida crappy...

Many thanks! I did the whole thing with a 0.5 Mechanical pencil. I just shaded lightly then smudged it with my finger to give it a softer look. I don't know how the hard/soft mediums work with mechanical leads, but I think these I used must be pretty hard not to break all the time like some others I've bought. Hope that helps. Thank you! I'll admit I don't think I've gotten so emotionally involved with a drawing before. She wasn't mine, but I spent so much time with her on her training & otherwise, everyone pretty much refered to her as 'my horse'. So to have her gone especially around Christmas, has been pretty hard. Since that's where I have the most memories of hitching her up for sleigh rides. But I'm glad that I could bring those emotions to the picture. It's the least I could do for her. thanks again for the comment. Much appreciated!

Thank you! I've never gotten such a fun reaction to a drawing! lol XD Yes my grandpa is funny, sometimes too much. XD But I love him & that's why I did it. I didn't really have time to do a decent background (pretty under the wire to finish it before Christmas) & now my Grandpa has it so it's pretty much the way it is. -__- But I figure that having less background did kind of bring Ruby & the little cowboy out a bit more. But I'll try to do another one someday & I'll make it a point to finish the background for you. ^^ Thanks a bunch for the comment & merry Christmas!
