He got her when he was 14 and ever since established a strong bond to her. Since he is a bit socially awkward - due to his shyness caused by him being deaf - and has virtually no friends except for his first girlfriend that moved away around that time as well, Iori relies on Umi a lot for emotional support. Living with his grandparents because his parents don't have the means (mainly time) to care for him properly, Iori often feels ostracized by his family even though they love him just as much as his siblings. Umi provides companionship and has always two ears open to listen. She is a very sweet well-trained bunny that is allowed to roam around free during the day and sleeps in her cage at night; or in Iori's bed. She lives to be 14 years old, which is very old for a bunny, but barley anything else was to be expected since she had very good care. Iori is devastated after her death and luckily, Berry comforts him. This is not enough though and Iori eventually wants babies to take care for to fill this emotional hole that Umi left behind. She will always be remembered dearly by the couple and her memory lives on through the children that came of her death.
