Unfortunately he has not such a good opinion of himself and his self-image is a little distorted. He is a bit overweight and beats himself up about it, but losing weight isn’t all that easy to him, especially with him eating his feelings every time his depression worsens. Naoto went the same school as Shiki and was one year above him. They became friends in early middle school and were good friends for years before becoming lovers. Sharing the same hobbies and interests, it was only natural that they spent a lot of time together. One of their favorite pastime activities was just lying around and reading while being close. Even after school they stayed together, with Naoto going to university to study psychology and Shiki taking over his family’s bookshop. Naoto helped Shiki to cope with his father’s death. He also took care of Shiki while he had to stay at the hospital due to his eye injury. During school, Naoto fell ill with leukemia and has been fighting it ever since. Just when he thought it was getting better again, it became worse. He lost a lot of weight and became weaker and weaker. When he became bedridden, Shiki spent a lot of time by his side and read him stories.
