They knew each other since middle school where they became friends and did all sorts of nerdy things together before falling in love and becoming a couple. They usually went to library together, picking books to read and then go home and just lie by each other reading. Naoto helped Shiki coping with the death of his father and took care of him when he was in the hospital after getting attacked with a knife. They were together way after graduation until Naoto died of leukemia. Before that, he fought cancer for several years with Shiki sticking by his side until the very end.
